About The Island

Garapua is located on the enchanting island of Tinharé...

and is the only municipality-archipelago in Brazil.

Tinharé’s archipelago consists of twenty-six islands, the most known being Tinharé, Boipeba, and Cairu.

These islands are bathed by the Atlantic Ocean and the Rio Tinharé channel. Beaches are covered with large areas of coconut groves, vast valleys, and mangrove forests that form recesses where, in every pore, life pulsates.

This region was once inhabited by the Tupiniquim and Aimore Indians. Today it still has a strong Zimbada presence but now receives thousands of visitors from many parts of the world.

EXPERIENCE THE BEST

The Caribbean of Brazil

One of the Bahia’s best kept secret is Garapua. Garapua brings to you the luxuries and comfort of beach front living but with a more relaxed and primitive touch.

See for yourself!

Cairu

Travel through the cobbled trails and discover a part of Brazil from the past. Cairu meaning "Hot Sun" in a Tupi language was once home to strong Aimore and Tpui Indians until the early 16th century when the area was invaded by Portuguese settlers.

Now the area is home to one of the oldest churches in Brasil, various museums such as the Museu de Cultura (Cultural Museum), and sites like the Torrinah settlement.

EXPLORE THE ISLANDS

You Should Be Here!

Filled with immense natural beauty, the Tinharé archipelago has all the ingredients to make your Brazilian dreams come true. With beautiful and friendly people, white sanded beaches that run for kilometres, hundreds of coconut farms, and magnificent nature to admire, this destination is where incredible memories are made.

Boipeba

Grab your guitar or bring your surfboard, because you're headed to true paradise --Boipeba.

The name Boipeba comes from the word "M'boi pewa" in the Tupi language, which means "flat snake", the native name for the sea turtle.

This heavenly island is an untouched paradise; pristine seas are ideal for fishing, snorkelling or surfing. Boats can be hired for trips to smaller islands. Join the locals as they practise yoga in the sand or enjoy the local restaurants with fresh seafood cuisine

Morro de Sao Paulo

The famous Morro do São Paulo is the main attraction of Tinharé. A small city perched atop a huge rock overlooking the ocean and accessible only by boat, Morro do São Paulo attracts thousands of tourists every year, mostly Brazilians.

Fun and adventure await beyond the calm beaches of Morro de São Paulo. For those in need of a party, head to Toca do Marcelo or Mama Africa. This city is for the more energetic soul, with parties lasting until dawn!

Fonte do Céu

The Fonte da Ceu trail leads you through 4 km of forest between Morro de São Paulo and Gamboa do Morro, crossing along the way the small, refreshing Chigoço/Fonte da Ceú waterfall.

After you cross over the water, look for a great green lookout that's an overlook of the beautiful Cairu Canal. The trail is well-marked and easy to navigate.
